John Boyega, known for playing Finn in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, recently shared his thoughts on the upcoming Star Wars: New Jedi Order movie. While Boyega isnโ€™t confirmed to be in the new film, he seems genuinely excited about the project and supports Daisy Ridleyโ€™s return as Rey.

In an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Boyega spoke about finding out about Daisy Ridleyโ€™s return online. He shared:

I miss Daisy, I haven’t seen Daisy face-to-face in a minute… I found out [about Daisy’s return] online. Being a genuine fan, I’m online, I watch reaction videos, I’m on the subscriber lists. I get the emails, as if I’m not in the films – you know, Star Wars: The Force Awakens comes out… oh, does it?

He also expressed hope for Daisyโ€™s character finally getting her moment in the spotlight, saying: “It made sense to expand the franchise in that way… I’m just hoping that Daisy gets that chance to shine in a franchise that’s finally hers, as a Jedi that’s fully qualified, I can’t wait to watch it. I really can’t. I’m happy for her.”

Fans have been wondering if Finn would make a comeback in New Jedi Order. After all, his Force-sensitivity was hinted at in The Rise of Skywalker, and the new movie is set 15 years after the events of the sequel trilogy. Many hoped to see Finn as a full-fledged Jedi, but Boyegaโ€™s comments suggest otherwise.

He talked about the new movie as if he were just another fan waiting to see it, saying:

I’m just looking forward, first of all to see if it’s real, because we have had a few Star Wars announcements – you know, in development, they can’t quite get it done.”

It’s no secret that Boyega was unhappy with how Finnโ€™s character was handled in the later movies. After being a central figure in The Force Awakens, Finn’s role became less prominent in the sequels. This led many to think Boyega wouldnโ€™t want to return to the franchise.

While he hasnโ€™t completely ruled out a return, his latest comments make it sound like heโ€™s more of a supportive spectator than someone involved in the project. Itโ€™s possible that since New Jedi Order is still in early development, an invitation could still come his way, but whether he would accept remains uncertain.

Right now, Star Wars: New Jedi Order is still in the early stages of development, and the project has changed several writers so far. Thereโ€™s some doubt about the projectโ€™s progress, especially after Star Wars Celebration 2025 didnโ€™t reveal much. Other movies like Star Wars: Starfighter are also in the works, which could push New Jedi Order to the back burner.
