PS3 Emulator RCPS3 Ported to Android After Less than a Week

The Android version of the PS3 emulator RCPS3 is now available in its early alpha form. This comes just days after DH, the co-founder of RPCS3, began working on the project. While the port is still far from perfect and lacks many features, it’s a big step for PS3 emulation on mobile devices.
The port is based on the Arm release of RPCS3 from December, which made it easier to adapt compared to the x86 versions for Windows or Linux.
Despite this progress, the developers of the original RPCS3 have stated they will not be involved with an Android version due to toxicity within the community. However, DH has taken the lead, leveraging their deep knowledge of the codebase from years of involvement with RPCS3.
Right now, the alpha build is far from fully functional. Most games won’t run correctly, and there are no controls integrated yet. However, the speed at which the project has moved forward is impressive, considering it’s only been a week since DH started working on it.
This is a big moment for PS3 emulation on Android. While we’ve seen other attempts like aPS3e, they were overshadowed by controversies, including stealing code and violating open-source licenses. The work DH is doing seems to promise a more legitimate path forward.
The RPCS3-Android project is already available for download on GitHub, but DH hasn’t made any public statements yet. This could be just the beginning, and 2025 is shaping up to be an exciting year for PS3 emulation on mobile devices.
