Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller Packs Faster Charging and Fresh Features

The Nintendo Switch 2 is almost here, and its new Pro Controller is grabbing attention with some smart upgrades, as spotted by Nintendo Life. This redesigned controller keeps the long-lasting battery life we loved in the original while cutting charging time nearly in half. It’s a sleek, practical update for gamers ready to dive into the next console.
Charging the Switch 2 Pro Controller takes about 3.5 hours with the Switch 2 AC adapter or USB-C cable, a big leap from the six hours needed for the original. Even with a slightly smaller battery at 1070 mAh compared to the older 1300 mAh, it still delivers 40 hours of gameplay on a single charge. That’s plenty for long gaming sessions without needing to plug in.
Nintendo didn’t stop at charging speed. The controller introduces a new C button tied to ‘GameChat’, a fresh feature for connecting with friends in-game. You’ll also find two extra GL/GR buttons on the back, giving players more control options. The controller feels a bit lighter too, weighing in at 235 grams, about 10 grams less than the original. It’s a small change, but it makes a difference during extended play.
Another upgrade is HD Rumble 2, promising more precise vibrations for a richer gaming experience. If you’re attached to your current Pro Controller, good news: it’ll work with the Switch 2, though you won’t be able to wake the console with the home button.
The Switch 2 Pro Controller comes with a price bump, now costing $84.99, up from $80. This aligns with price increases for other Switch 2 accessories, though the console itself stays at $449.99. Nintendo recently delayed pre-orders to April 24 due to tariff concerns, giving fans a bit more time to plan their purchase.
During the recent 60-minute Nintendo Direct, we got a closer look at the Switch 2 and its accessories. The Pro Controller’s mix of faster charging, new buttons, and familiar battery life makes it a solid companion for the upcoming console. Whether you’re upgrading or sticking with your original, Nintendo’s got you covered.
