Since its launch in June, the Switch 2 has seen growing market performance with sales forecasts recently revised upward. However, the latest software patch for the console has introduced strict new policies that could affect enthusiastic users and the homebrew community.

Nintendo recently rolled out system version 21.1.0, citing the usual improvements to operational stability and bug fixes. Despite the modest description, the official support documentation contains critical warnings regarding the use of unauthorized software.

The company explicitly states that consoles running modifications or non-standard peripherals may cease to function correctly after applying the update. Nintendo also warned that any data not created through normal system operations, such as modified save files, is subject to automatic deletion.

There are also significant implications for hardware warranties, as updating a system in an “abnormal state” leaves the user unprotected. If a modified console fails during or after the process, Nintendo has clarified that it will not guarantee normal operation or provide official support.

These potential risks have caused hesitation among players who utilize homebrew software or third-party accessories. Many in the modding community are now recommending that users delay the update until its safety and compatibility can be fully verified.

For those using a standard setup, the update can be installed automatically via an internet connection or manually through the system settings. It is highly recommended to back up all save data and ensure no unauthorized software is present before proceeding with the installation.

Please let us know your opinion on these strict new policies for the Switch 2 in the comments.
