Playwood Project, the indie game team known for Wartile, has announced their new game Successor. This tactical RPG will launch on Steam Early Access for PC and Steam VR on May 29, 2025. A teaser trailer, game description, and screenshots were shared by Playwood Project to give fans a first look.

Successor is a roguelike tactical RPG set in a dark fantasy world. The game looks like a tabletop game with beautiful miniature diorama-style visuals. Players take on the role of a Lord and lead a team of tiny, battle-ready heroes across different regions and hand-made battleboards.

Each kingdom in the game is procedurally generated. This means every time players start a new game, the map and challenges will be different. Players must carefully plan their moves, equip their heroes well, and choose battles wisely because losing can have serious effects.

The game features real-time combat but also has a tactical pause system. This allows players to stop time, use special abilities, and see how their attacks work before jumping back into the fight. Battles happen in various places like forests, dungeons, and mountain passes. Each environment can change the battle because of different terrain effects and other changes.

Successor will launch with a strong amount of content, and Playwood Project plans to add more later. They will listen to players and add new Lords, areas, enemies, and game systems over time.
