New AI Features Coming to Kindle for Readers Who Lose the Plot
Amazon is introducing new tools for Kindle users that utilize artificial intelligence to help track story progress. These features are designed specifically for readers who may forget plot details or simply wish to understand their books better.
The first major addition is a feature called “Recaps.” This function operates similarly to the “previously on” segments found in television series, offering concise summaries of past events.
If you have ever put a book down for a long period, this tool helps you catch up without forcing you to reread entire chapters. It generates brief overviews of the narrative arc, key character moments, and important plot points that have occurred up to your current page.
The second new capability is known as “Ask this Book.” This interactive option allows you to highlight text and type out questions directly to an AI assistant integrated into the reading experience.
Readers can ask for clarification on confusing details or request reminders about who specific characters are. Amazon has stated that the AI is programmed to answer these queries without revealing spoilers for future events in the story.
These updates are currently rolling out to customers in the United States on supported Kindle devices and the iOS mobile app. International availability has not yet been announced, but broader access is expected in future software updates.
We are curious to know if these AI summaries would help you finish more books or if you prefer to rely on your own memory. Please share your thoughts in the comments.
