If you’re playing Monster Hunter Wilds on PC and have noticed your game stuttering, your CPU maxing out, or even crashing during shader compilation, you’re not alone. Many players have reported similar issues, especially after recent updates. The good news is that there’s a fix that has worked for a lot of people: deleting the shader cache.

According to Capcom, the developers of Monster Hunter Wilds, some graphical issues may be caused by damaged shader cache files. They recommend deleting these files to improve game stability.

One player shared their experience: “Encountered a bug where my game did not recompile shaders after the latest update and my latest driver update. Turned my game into a stuttering mess that maxed my CPU usage at all settings. The fix was to go into my game folder and delete the game shader cache file and force it to recompile. Running great now. Hope this helps someone!” .

Another user reported: “I started having some issues with unloaded textures and flickering. Admittedly I thought it was a driver issue but through some troubleshooting discovered it was the shader file.” .

To delete the shader cache, navigate to your Monster Hunter Wilds installation folder and look for files named “shader.cache” or “shader.cache2”. Deleting these files will force the game to recompile shaders, which can resolve performance issues.

If you’re using an Nvidia GPU, it’s important to revert the shader cache size setting after deleting the cache. Go to the Nvidia Control Panel, select “Manage 3D Settings”, click on the “Global Settings” tab, and change “Shader Cache Size” back to your original selection. The default setting is “Driver Default”.

Remember to restart your computer after deleting the shader cache to ensure the changes take effect. This should help improve your game’s performance and stability.

If you’re still experiencing issues after trying these steps, consider verifying the integrity of your game files through Steam, updating your graphics drivers, or reaching out to Capcom’s support for further assistance.
