Elden Ring Nightreign Fans Get Two-Player Co-Op Thanks to New Mod

Elden Ring Nightreign just came out, but PC players already have a way to play it in two-player co-op, thanks to a fan-made mod. The game, which is meant to be played solo or with a team of three, didn’t offer a way to play with just one friend—until now.
The Duos mod was created by Luke Yui, the same modder who made the Seamless Co-op mod for the original Elden Ring and other FromSoftware games.
He showed off a short video not long after Nightreign went live, showing two players exploring together without using the official matchmaking servers. Soon after that, he released the mod on the Elden Ring Nightreign Nexus for others to download and try.
The game has gotten some criticism because it doesn’t let you play with just one other person unless you match with a third random player. A lot of people prefer playing with just one friend or their partner, and not being able to do that has led to some frustration. On Steam, the game’s user reviews are currently rated as “Mixed,” and the missing duo option is one of the reasons players aren’t happy.
During an interview with IGN back in December, game director Junya Ishizaki explained why they chose to build the game around teams of three. He said it was “largely a game balancing decision, rather than a game design decision.” In another interview closer to release, he admitted that duos were “kind of overlooked and neglected,” and suggested that support for two-player teams might come after launch—but nothing official has been announced.
For now, this new mod is giving players a way to enjoy the game the way they want. It’s another example of how modders can step in and make features the community is asking for.
Elden Ring Nightreign is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
