Apple Unveils iPhone 17e with A19 Chip and MagSafe Support
Apple has just introduced the iPhone 17e, its latest affordable smartphone that builds nicely on the previous model while keeping the familiar look and accessible price. This new entry-level device arrives with several meaningful upgrades that make it feel more capable for everyday use without pushing into premium territory. The announcement came as part of Apple’s early 2026 lineup reveal, showing the company’s focus on delivering solid performance at a budget-friendly level.
The standout feature is the A19 chip, which powers the phone with impressive efficiency. This processor uses advanced 3-nanometer technology and includes a six-core CPU paired with a four-core GPU, along with strong neural engine capabilities for tasks like photo processing and Apple Intelligence features. It represents a step up from the A18 in the prior version, promising smoother multitasking, better gaming, and enhanced overall speed. Apple also equipped the iPhone 17e with its custom C1X modem, which delivers noticeably faster 5G connectivity compared to before.
One of the most welcome additions is MagSafe compatibility, finally bringing magnetic wireless charging and accessory support to this lineup. Users can now enjoy up to 15-watt wireless charging speeds and easily snap on chargers, wallets, or stands from Apple’s ecosystem. This upgrade addresses a key limitation from the previous model and makes the phone far more versatile for those who rely on wireless accessories.
The display remains a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED panel with a resolution of 1170 by 2532 pixels and a sharp pixel density around 457 PPI. It keeps the classic notch design for Face ID rather than adopting the Dynamic Island, and it sticks with a 60 Hz refresh rate. The screen gains protection from the newer Ceramic Shield 2 glass, which offers improved resistance to scratches and drops. On the front, a 12-megapixel TrueDepth camera handles secure unlocking and high-quality selfies.
Photography gets a boost from the single 48-megapixel Fusion rear camera with an f/1.6 aperture, optical image stabilization, and support for 4K video recording at 60 frames per second in Dolby Vision. Improved image processing enhances portrait shots and low-light performance, even though the hardware sensor stays consistent with the prior generation. The phone supports USB-C for charging and data transfer, runs iOS 26 out of the box, and skips a headphone jack as expected.
Storage starts at 256 gigabytes, doubling the base capacity of the previous model, with a 512-gigabyte option available too. This change provides plenty of room for photos, videos, apps, and games without extra cost. Battery life holds strong with up to 26 hours of video playback claimed, though real-world results will depend on usage patterns. The device measures about 5.78 by 2.81 by 0.31 inches and weighs 169 grams, keeping it compact and lightweight.
Available colors include white, black, and a soft pink, giving buyers some fresh choices. In the United States, the iPhone 17e starts at $599 for the 256-gigabyte version, maintaining the same entry price as before while delivering more value through the doubled storage and new features.
