New leaks from The Information suggest that Apple’s next budget-friendly smartphone will address a major complaint regarding its predecessor. The iPhone 17e is expected to launch in the spring of 2026 with a feature that was notably missing from the iPhone 16e.

When Apple released the iPhone 16e earlier this year, it arrived as the most affordable model in the lineup. However, to keep costs down, the company omitted the magnetic alignment magnets required for MagSafe. Users were limited to standard Qi wireless charging without the convenience of magnetic accessories.

The upcoming iPhone 17e will reportedly correct this omission by including full MagSafe support. This means owners will finally be able to use the vast ecosystem of magnetic wallets, stands, and chargers that have become standard for other iPhone users. It also opens the door for faster wireless charging speeds compared to the basic Qi standard.

Beyond the charging upgrades, the device is rumored to feature Apple’s second-generation in-house mobile modem, the C1X. This chip, which debuted in the iPhone Air this September, should provide more stable connectivity and better power efficiency.

Other specifications appear to remain largely similar to the current model. The phone is expected to retain the same 6.1-inch OLED display found on the iPhone 16e, though it may feature slightly thinner bezels.

Let us know if MagSafe support is a dealbreaker for you when buying a budget phone in the comments.
