Xiaomi Inadvertently Confirms HyperOS 4 Development and Strategy Shift[1]
Xiaomi has taken the tech community by surprise by prematurely mentioning “OS4” in an official capacity. This reference to HyperOS 4 surfaced in a bug report response, which is unexpected given that the company is currently in the middle of rolling out HyperOS 3 globally.
The leak happened while the software team was responding to reports of the system launcher crashing on various devices. Instead of promising a quick hotfix, the developers indicated that the root cause lies deep within the system architecture.
They stated that a permanent fix for these instability issues is scheduled for the “upcoming OS4 Major Update.” This suggests that any patches released for the current version are likely just temporary band-aids until the code can be properly rewritten.
This news hints at a significant change in Xiaomi’s update strategy, potentially bypassing intermediate versions like HyperOS 3.1. Speculation is growing that the company plans to bundle anticipated features, such as the new iOS-style recent apps menu, directly into the next major OS release.
Skipping minor updates would allow engineers to focus on consolidating visual upgrades and deep system repairs into one cohesive package. This method is often safer for implementing major architectural changes compared to patching complex issues in smaller updates.
Would you prefer Xiaomi to focus on a stable HyperOS 4 launch rather than releasing smaller intermediate updates? Let us know what you think in the comments.
