In a landmark move to combat unauthorized AI usage, YouTube has announced a collaboration with CAA, aiming to empower artists to manage AI-generated content that features their likenesses.

Through this partnership, CAA’s talent roster will access YouTube’s experimental likeness management technology, which identifies AI-generated videos for potential action, including removal requests.

The technology trial is set to kick off early next year, with participants ranging from award-winning actors to top athletes in the NBA and NFL. The initiative promises to offer more control and awareness to artists over their digital personas on the platform.

Neal Mohan, CEO of YouTube, emphasized the importance of a responsible AI approach, stating, ‘At YouTube, we’re committed to empowering artists and creators, helping them harness AI’s potential while maintaining control over their likenesses.’

This sentiment was echoed by Bryan Lourd, CEO and co-chairman of CAA, who highlighted the ethical considerations and talent rights central to their AI discussions. Lourd praised YouTube for creating a solution that aligns with talent-focused goals.

The collaboration is part of YouTube’s broader strategy to introduce more protective measures for artists against AI.

This includes the development of a synthetic-singing identification technology revealed last September, aimed at helping partners manage artificially generated vocal content.

Additionally, CAA has been proactive in safeguarding artist rights in the AI arena. They launched the CAA Vault last year, which stores and secures clients’ digital likenesses, offering them ownership and control over their digital selves.

CAA has also partnered with tech firms and supported legislative measures like the NO FAKES Act to further protect artists from unauthorized AI recreations.

This partnership represents a significant step forward in the intersection of technology, ethics, and artist rights, setting a precedent for other platforms and agencies in the entertainment industry.
