XPeng Reveals First Images of Its New G7 SUV

Not long after images of a refreshed Tesla Model Y testing in winter conditions in China surfaced, XPeng Motors made waves by introducing its new SUV, the G7. This move appears to directly challenge Tesla’s popular electric vehicle lineup.

Though XPeng and Tesla operate in different countries, comparisons between the two are frequent. XPeng faced early criticism for its cars resembling Tesla’s designs. At one point, Tesla accused XPeng of stealing its Autopilot source code, leading to a lawsuit that was eventually settled without involving XPeng directly.

Despite this, XPeng has steadily grown, expanding into markets outside China, including Europe, with new models generating excitement.

The G6 SUV, launched by XPeng in the summer of 2023, is slated for a 2025 update that will reportedly drop LiDAR sensors in favor of vision-based cameras, similar to Tesla’s approach.

Meanwhile, Tesla’s rumored Model Y redesign seems to echo the G6’s aesthetic, as shown in the latest spy shots.

Just as these Tesla images were gaining attention, XPeng surprised the EV community by revealing the G7. This new SUV, expected to be positioned between the G6 and G9, aims to compete directly with Tesla’s Model Y. XPeng CEO He Xiaopeng has ambitious plans, promising new or updated models every quarter in the coming year, as reported earlier.

The G7’s debut on Weibo highlighted its attractive design, AI features, and spacious interior, making it a top choice for families. XPeng claims it will be the best SUV in the 250,000 RMB range, roughly $34,100, directly competing with Tesla’s pricing in China.
