Xiaomi Quietly Increases Tablet Prices as RAM Costs Surge
The era of stable electronics pricing may be coming to an abrupt end as component costs begin to bite. Xiaomi has silently adjusted the price tags on several of its tablet models in the Chinese market without any major announcement.
Reports indicate that the tech giant raised prices by roughly 100 to 200 yuan across various configurations. This translates to an increase of approximately 13 to 26 euros, depending on the specific device.
The Xiaomi Pad 8 series and the budget-friendly Redmi Pad 2 appear to be the primary targets of these adjustments. For instance, the base model of the Pad 8 now starts at a higher price point, and the Pro version has seen a similar jump.
Industry insiders point to a clear culprit for these sudden changes: the skyrocketing cost of RAM and storage components. Manufacturers are facing immense pressure as the price of memory chips continues to climb globally.
A significant driver of this trend is the exploding demand for resources from the artificial intelligence sector. Production capacity for DRAM is increasingly being shifted toward data centers to support AI growth, leaving fewer chips for consumer gadgets.
Xiaomi executives had previously warned that component costs were rising far beyond initial projections. It appears the company could no longer absorb these expenses and has been forced to pass the burden onto the consumer.
Analysts predict that this might just be the beginning of a broader industry trend that could soon affect other major brands. Forecasts suggest that storage prices are on track for another significant hike in the first quarter of 2026.
