Microsoft hasn’t shared official sales numbers for the Xbox Series X/S in a while. This leaves us guessing based on reports from other companies. Recently, Take-Two Interactive provided some interesting figures.
In their latest earnings report, Take-Two mentioned that, together, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S have sold over 94 million units worldwide as of November 2024.
Sony had previously announced that by September 30, 2024, the PS5 had sold more than 65.5 million units globally. Considering the strong sales typically seen in the last quarter of the year, it’s likely that by November, PS5 sales reached between 67 to 69 million units.
If we subtract these PS5 numbers from the combined total reported by Take-Two, it suggests that the Xbox Series X/S has sold between 25 to 27 million units by that time. This is an estimate, but it gives us a rough idea of where things stand.
Back in June 2023, Microsoft had shared that the Xbox Series X/S had sold 21 million units worldwide. Since then, official updates have been scarce, making it challenging to track their progress.
Analysts have also weighed in. Some estimates from last year indicated that Xbox Series X/S shipments might have surpassed 28 million units by June. However, without official numbers from Microsoft, these remain educated guesses.
In the gaming world, numbers can tell an interesting story. While the PS5 seems to be leading in sales, the exact position of the Xbox Series X/S is a bit unclear due to the lack of recent official data. As we move forward, it will be intriguing to see how these figures evolve and what strategies Microsoft might employ to boost their console’s presence in the market.
