In the ever-evolving theater of modern warfare, Ukraine is making significant strides with its use of drones, particularly through the innovative use of the Dovbush T10 as a ‘mothership’ for smaller drones.

Historically, drones like the RQ-4 Global Hawk and MQ-9 Reaper have dominated aerial warfare discussions, but it’s the smaller, more agile drones that are now taking center stage.

These compact quadcopters, although small in size, are proving to be a game changer on the battlefield.

Typically, their limited range has been a drawback. However, Ukrainian forces have creatively extended this range by deploying the Dovbush T10 drone.

This drone can carry six kamikaze drones much further than their standalone capabilities would allow.

The Dovbush T10 initially served for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance with a light ordnance load but has since been adapted to enhance its operational reach.

As of 2022, this drone has been repurposed to act as a relay for smaller drones, improving their effectiveness in combat scenarios.

Interestingly, each kamikaze drone, before modification, could only travel three miles. But when deployed from the T10, they can cover much larger distances, strike with precision, and return valuable battlefield data.

These drones are also remarkably cost-effective, with a full set-up of a T10 carrying these drones totaling around $16,500.

Ukraine’s approach not only showcases the adaptability and innovation in drone technology but also signifies a shift in how technology is being leveraged in conflict zones.

This strategy allows Ukrainian forces to engage targets from new angles and distances, enhancing their tactical flexibility and capability on the ground.
