The U.S. Government Is Apparently Working on Its Own AI ChatBot

U.S. President Donald Trump has shocked the world on more than one occasion. In fact, his blunders and surprising moves are probably too many to name in this article, which is why we are going to focus on the latest.
In light of the chaos that Trump’s actions caused in California, a potentially grim piece of news also emerged. Why grim? Because it could signal a potential attack on the freedom of expression on the Internet.
Namely, information has emerged that Trump’s administration is working on a government-owned AI Chatbot which would be called AI.gov and would “work” for the Government.
This is not the first time this news broke, but we now have some solid evidence on what the Government is working on, thanks to some code that appeared on GitHub. The code shows what the government has in mind, and we even have a link to the early version of the AI.gov site.
Based on the reports we have, the project is led by the General Services Administration’s Technology Transformation Services, while the main person behind it is Thomas Shedd, a former Tesla engineer who was also a supporter of Musk’s DOGE.
Shedd is known for his previous statements about using AI to help make the government efficient by utilizing it to detect fraud, create special “coding agents” that would aid in the creation of government software, but also to analyze various types of contracts.
The official link to the early version of the site now redirects to the White House’s official site, but if you follow the link we provided, you will see that AI.gov, which is “powered by the best in American AI,” had three features – an AI chat assistant, an API to connect with models from OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic, as well as a console that would “analyze agency-wide implementation.”
And while everything is still being kept hidden, it has been reported that the project is expected to commence on July 4, 2025, so we’ll see what the Government has in mind, but the fears that a Trump-controlled, government-based AI could lead to a new information war and a series of false “facts” are more than palpable.
