Switch emulation on Android is still recovering after losing Yuzu and Ryujinx last year. However, new developers are stepping in to fill the gap. One standout is Citron, a Yuzu-based project that’s actively evolving. Its latest update focuses on improving compatibility with some of the most popular games.

The update, labeled Citron V0.4, improves how games look and run, with updates to graphics rendering and slight changes to the interface. The real highlight, though, is how much smoother games like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Donkey Kong Country Returns HD perform.

Citron no longer tries to hide its purpose, fully embracing its role as a Nintendo Switch emulator. On its homepage, it proudly invites users to ‘Experience Nintendo Switch games on your PC with unprecedented performance and compatibility.’

It also shows game compatibility stats, claiming that about 60% of titles run perfectly while 85% are at least playable. Keep in mind, though, that performance still depends heavily on the device and drivers being used.

Previously, Citron called itself a ‘Nintendo Homebrew Emulator,’ but that messaging has changed. Even with a notice about not supporting piracy for legal reasons, this update might catch Nintendo’s attention. Last year, Nintendo cracked down on emulators, and with rumors of a Switch 2 release this year, there’s a chance they’ll take similar action again.

You can find the latest Citron Emulator update directly on their official website.
