The Biden Administration is looking into ways to prevent TikTok from disappearing in the U.S., even as the popular app faces a ban set for January 19, according to NBC News.

An official from the administration reassured, ‘Americans shouldn’t expect TikTok to vanish on Sunday.’

Last April, President Joe Biden signed a law that could ban TikTok unless its parent company, ByteDance, which is based in Beijing, sells its American operations. Lawmakers in the U.S. have expressed concerns about TikTok potentially being used as a tool for Chinese government spying, as Chinese law could require TikTok to hand over user data if asked.

The Biden Administration is signaling interest in keeping TikTok accessible in some form, while Donald Trump, who has also shown support for the app, is considering an executive order to protect it. Trump credits TikTok for helping him gain younger voters.

Meanwhile, a White House official told NBC News that the administration is prepared to enforce the ban if it stays in place. The official stated, ‘We don’t believe we have the authority to delay enforcement.’

TikTok has announced that it will shut down the app for U.S. users on Sunday if the ban goes through. The U.S. Supreme Court is currently reviewing the legality of the ban, but a reversal seems unlikely based on recent comments from justices during a hearing.

NBC News and The Washington Post contributed to this report.
