Telegram reports that it has taken down 15.4 million groups and channels sharing harmful content in 2024
Telegram has been facing intense pressure this year to address harmful content on its platform. This comes after the app’s founder, Pavel Durov, was arrested in France and is now dealing with charges linked to content allegedly shared through the messaging service.
In September, Telegram announced a crackdown, and now the company reports removing 15.4 million groups and channels in 2024. These included those connected to issues like fraud and terrorism. Telegram stated that this cleanup was made possible by using advanced AI moderation tools.
The update was shared through a new moderation page, which Telegram has introduced to provide more transparency about its efforts. According to a post on Durov’s Telegram channel, the moderation activity surged significantly after his arrest in August.
