Streamer Ninja Claims ‘Overwatch’ Is “Dead,” Predicts a Bright Future for ‘Marvel Rivals’
Popular streamer Ninja didn’t hold back on his thoughts about Overwatch, calling it ‘dead and gone’ while praising Marvel Rivals for having everything it needs to stay on top.
Marvel Rivals has a lot in common with Overwatch, from character designs to gameplay. Because of this, many players have made the switch, causing Overwatch’s numbers to drop hard. Some think this is just early excitement, but Ninja believes it’s more than that—he says Overwatch might not bounce back.
During a recent stream, he explained why Marvel Rivals has the upper hand. ‘They already have a new map coming, which is incredible,’ he said. ‘They have so much lore, so many heroes, villains, and anti-heroes. They have enough for updates for the next 10 years.’
NetEase, the team behind Marvel Rivals, plans to roll out new characters every six weeks. That means their roster will outgrow Overwatch’s in just a couple of years. Blizzard, on the other hand, adds a new hero every two seasons and has to create everything from scratch, from lore to abilities.
Ninja also pointed out how badly Overwatch 2 launched. He called it a weak update instead of a real sequel and brought up the failed PVE mode, which Blizzard had hyped up but later scrapped.
Meanwhile, Overwatch still has a player base, and Season 15 is just around the corner with major gameplay updates on the way. But with Marvel Rivals expanding fast, it’s clear the competition is heating up.
