Spotify is finally gearing up to roll out its high-fidelity music streaming option, a long-awaited feature that fans have been hoping for since 2021. The new service, expected to launch later this year, will offer higher-quality audio than the current standard. Spotify Pro, as it’s being called, will give users access to remixing tools using AI and early access to concert tickets, alongside the premium audio quality.

This news comes after years of speculation. In 2024, similar rumors circulated, but nothing concrete came to light. This time, though, sources are reporting that Spotify will charge a $6 add-on for the feature in the US, with prices likely varying in other regions.

Spotify’s current audio quality peaks at 320 kbps, which falls behind rivals like Tidal and Apple Music. Tidal offers lossless streaming at up to 24-bit/192 kHz, and Apple Music offers CD-quality lossless audio at no extra charge. Amazon’s Ultra HD music offers an even higher bitrate, which Spotify will have to compete with.

Even though Spotify’s audio options have been lacking compared to competitors, the extra features in the new tier, like priority concert ticket sales, may help it stand out. But with streaming prices already higher than some competitors, it could be tough for Spotify to convince people to pay more for the new feature.

We’re still waiting for a confirmed release date and official pricing, but it looks like this long-awaited high-quality streaming option might finally be on the horizon.
