Sony’s PlayStation 5 has achieved a remarkable milestone, with shipments exceeding 75 million units worldwide. This accomplishment reflects the console’s enduring popularity and the company’s effective distribution strategies.

In the final quarter of 2024, Sony shipped 9.5 million PS5 units, marking an increase of 1.3 million compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year. This uptick underscores the growing demand for the console as more gamers seek to experience its advanced features and extensive game library.

The PlayStation Network also saw growth, reaching 129 million monthly active users by the end of December 2024. This is an increase of six million users from the same time the previous year, indicating a thriving and engaged gaming community.

Combined sales of PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 software reached 95.9 million units in the last quarter of 2024, up by 6.2 million from the previous year. However, first-party title sales experienced a decline, totaling 11.6 million units, down from 16.2 million in the same period the prior year. Additionally, 74% of software sales were digital downloads, a slight decrease of 3% from the previous year.

These figures highlight the PS5’s strong market presence and the dynamic nature of the gaming industry. As we continue to embrace digital gaming, it’s clear that the PlayStation brand remains a significant player in the entertainment world.
