RTX 5080 Benchmarks Leak Reveals Mixed Results, Surprises for Nvidia Fans
Newly leaked benchmarks give us a glimpse into the performance of Nvidia’s upcoming RTX 5080 GPU, which is set to launch alongside the RTX 5090 on January 30. These tests, spotted on Geekbench and Blender Open Data, show that the RTX 5080 might not live up to expectations in all areas.
The RTX 5080 tested is an MSI-branded unit paired with an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor, which is one of the top gaming CPUs right now. The setup also includes 32GB of DDR5-6000 memory and a MSI MPG 850 Edge TI Wi-Fi motherboard.
In the Vulkan benchmark, the RTX 5080 scored 261,836 points, showing a 22% performance boost compared to the RTX 4080. However, the performance improvement in the OpenCL test was much smaller, offering just a 6.7% increase.
On the Blender Open Data platform, the RTX 5080 achieved a median score of 9,063.77, making it about 9.4% faster than the RTX 4080 and 8.2% better than the RTX 4080 Super. However, when compared to the RTX 4090, the 5080 doesn’t appear to offer much of an upgrade. In fact, it looks like it might fall short of surpassing the 4090’s performance.
The RTX 5080 is built on Nvidia’s new Blackwell architecture, featuring 10,752 CUDA cores and 16GB of GDDR7 memory. It promises impressive AI and ray tracing performance, with 1,801 TOPS via Tensor Cores and 171 Teraflops from the RT Cores. Starting at $1,000, the RTX 5080 will likely have higher prices for custom board partner models.
While these results are interesting, they are not fully verified yet. We should wait for official reviews before jumping to conclusions about how the RTX 5080 stacks up.
