Renault 5 and Alpine A290 Take European Car of the Year 2025 Award
At the Brussels International Motor Show, the Renault 5 E-Tech and Alpine A290 were both named winners of the 2025 European Car of the Year. This marks the second consecutive year Renault has claimed the top prize.
The shortlist for the award included mainly electric and electrically assisted cars, reflecting the growing shift away from fossil fuel-powered vehicles. Other finalists were the Alfa Romeo Junior, Citroen C3-eC3, Cupra Terramar, Dacia Duster, Hyundai Inster, and Kia EV3.
The Renault 5 E-Tech impressed many with its retro styling, affordable price starting around £23,000 (c. $28,000), and solid 190-mile range. If buyers want more range and power, they can opt for the more expensive model, which starts at £27,000 (c. $33,000).
The Alpine A290, a sportier version of the R5, offers 220bhp and a 236-mile range in the GTS model, with a price expected to be over £30,000 (c. $36,500). Both cars are likely to draw attention with their sleek designs and strong performance in the EV market.
