OpenAI is testing a new feature for ChatGPT that could help with daily tasks. The company recently announced the beta launch of ‘Scheduled Tasks‘ for ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and Team users, as reported by Android Central.

This feature allows users to set up ‘automated prompts’ for ChatGPT to run at specific times. To access this, users need to tap on their profile icon and go to ‘Tasks.’ From there, they can name the task and set a schedule.

The key part is the ‘instructions’ box where users tell ChatGPT what they want it to do, like reminding them of tasks or finding news online. For example, a user might ask, ‘Can you give me a briefing on AI news each afternoon?’

As the beta starts, OpenAI is clear about some limits. ChatGPT can only handle 10 tasks at a time due to the use of GPT-4o. The feature doesn’t support voice chats, file uploads, or GPTs either.

Users can ‘edit’ or ‘pause’ their tasks. Notifications are available on the web, but users must allow ChatGPT to send alerts when tasks are ready. The feature works on mobile devices (Android and iOS), the web, and MacOS. Windows users will need to wait until later in Q1.

Scheduled Tasks are starting to show up for users with the ‘beta’ tag. This move by OpenAI is seen as stepping into Google’s territory, especially after the introduction of ChatGPT Search, which provides quick and relevant information similar to Google’s AI Overviews. ChatGPT Search also includes ‘Sources’ for those who want to fact-check the AI’s responses.

This new feature could make ChatGPT an even stronger tool for managing tasks and staying informed, giving it an edge over traditional search engines.
