Nvidia Investigating New RTX 50-Series GPUs ‘Bricked’ Issue Reports

Nvidia, the tech giant known for its powerful graphics cards, is currently investigating issues with its latest products, the RTX 5080 and RTX 5090, which have been causing significant problems for users.

Despite the anticipation and advanced features offered by these new models, several reports have surfaced indicating that these GPUs may become non-functional soon after purchase, a condition colloquially known as ‘bricking.’

Bricking renders an electronic device completely unusable, turning it effectively into a ‘brick.’

This can sometimes be irreversible, leaving customers who have shelled out anywhere from $1,000 to $2,000 for these cutting-edge cards in a tough spot.

Users have reported that their systems fail to detect the new GPUs, rendering the high-end cards useless.

Launched on January 30, 2025, the RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 are described by Nvidia as the most advanced GeForce GPUs ever created.

They boast AI-enhanced graphics capabilities, full ray tracing, neural rendering, and significantly improved performance metrics.

The RTX 5090, for example, offers double the performance on DLSS 4 and ray tracing compared to its predecessor, the RTX 4090. Similarly, the RTX 5080 shows a substantial performance leap over the RTX 4080.

However, the excitement over these advancements has been dampened by the growing volume of user complaints.

Nvidia’s response to the situation has been brief but acknowledges the seriousness of the issue. They said, ‘We are investigating the reported issues with the RTX 50 series.’

The problem appears to be linked to Nvidia’s latest driver update, version 572.16, which may be causing the GPUs to fail permanently.

Nvidia has not yet confirmed how widespread these issues are but promised to keep users updated through upcoming blog posts.

While the RTX 5080 problems are not believed to be related to hardware stability or the Nvidia Architecture, the company is taking the reports seriously.
