Nintendo Pulls the Plug on Gold Points Right Before Switch 2

Big news from Nintendo today. Starting March 25, 2025, we won’t earn Gold Points on eShop purchases anymore.
For those unfamiliar, Gold Points are like a thank-you from Nintendo. When we buy games digitally, we get these points to use for discounts later. But soon, this perk is going away.
If you’ve pre-ordered a digital game before March 24, 2025, don’t worry. You’ll still get your Gold Points, even if the game comes out later. Just make sure your payment goes through without any hiccups.
Prefer physical game cartridges? You can still snag Gold Points by registering them, as long as the game was released by March 24, 2025. In Europe, you’ve got two years from the game’s release date to do this; elsewhere, it’s one year.
Already have some Gold Points? Great! They’re good for 12 months from when you got them, expiring at the end of the month. So, points earned up to March 24, 2025, can be used for discounts until they run out.
Nintendo hasn’t said why they’re ending Gold Points. Their message was simple: ‘We sincerely thank you for using the My Nintendo rewards programme, and apologise for any inconvenience.’
With the Switch 2 on the horizon, maybe they’re planning a new rewards system? Time will tell.
In related news, those Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers we love? They won’t work for Switch 2 exclusive games.
These vouchers let us buy two games at a discount, which is awesome. But heads up: they won’t apply to new Switch 2 titles.
Nintendo’s keeping their plans under wraps for now. But with these changes, something big is definitely coming.
So, what do you think? Is this a sign of exciting new things with the Switch 2? Let’s wait and see!
