Nintendo Breaks Silence Regarding All the Recent Nintento Switch 2 Leaks
Nintendo’s next console, often called the Switch 2, has been making headlines in Las Vegas during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES). The attention largely comes from Genki, a peripheral maker, claiming to have insights into Nintendo’s future plans. Now, for the first time, Nintendo has spoken up about the rumors.
A spokesperson told The Sankei Shimbun that the images and videos from CES are ‘not official.’ Additionally, another spokesperson informed CNET Japan that the hardware Genki claims to be from Nintendo is ‘not official and was not provided to the company by Nintendo.’
At CES, Genki displayed a mockup of what it claimed to be the Switch 2. Genki initially suggested that this mockup was based on a real Switch 2 console it had seen. However, Genki later clarified to Game Spark that its design was only based on leaks and that it had not actually seen the console firsthand.
Genki further mentioned at CES that it expects the Switch 2 to launch in April 2025. Besides Genki’s claims, there are other reports discussing new Joy-Cons with a potentially improved design and additional features.
Nintendo, however, has confirmed that they will announce their next console by the end of March 2025. Many believe this means the Switch 2, or whatever it will be named, could be revealed soon, with a launch expected later in the year.
The new system will have a tough act to follow, as the original Switch sold over 146 million units and 1.3 billion games.
