A new game collection is making its way to the Nintendo Switch this year, bringing back some classic titles from Sega, NES, and SNES. While there’s no set release date yet, we know it’s dropping in 2025.
If you owned an NES, SNES, Sega Master System, or a Mega CD, this one is worth keeping an eye on. Arcade fans from the late ’90s might also find something familiar in this collection.
The collection is coming from publisher Taito and developer M2, who are also launching Operation Night Strikers for PC and Nintendo Switch later this year. So far, there’s no news about it arriving on PlayStation, Xbox, or even the rumored Nintendo Switch 2. But since the Switch 2 will support backward compatibility, this collection should still be playable.
So far, four games have been confirmed: Operation Wolf (Arcade, NES, Famicom, Sega Master System), Operation Thunderbolt (Arcade, SNES), Night Striker (Arcade, Mega CD), and Space Gun (Arcade, Sega Master System).
When the collection was first announced for PC, there was no mention of a Switch version. On top of that, Operation Thunderbolt and Space Gun were not originally listed as part of the package.
This news also comes alongside another big reveal: Night Striker Gear, a brand-new game in the Night Striker series, is launching on PC and Nintendo Switch this year.
There’s still no word on the exact price of the collection, and Taito and M2 haven’t released a trailer yet.
These are said to be ‘faithful ports’ of the originals, but some modern touches have been added. Players will be able to use filters that mimic old-school arcade monitors, save and load progress at any time, check ranking data, and use replay features.
Plus, the collection is fully compatible with the Cyber Stick intelligent controller for those who want a more immersive experience. Expect more details as the year goes on, but for now, Switch owners can get excited about a fresh way to play some arcade classics.
