Apple has been toying with the idea of wireless reverse charging for some time now, and it seems like the iPhone 17 Pro could be the model where this technology finally materializes.

Introduced partially back in 2020 with the iPhone 12, the feature enabled charging of the MagSafe Battery Pack but fell short of full MagSafe/Qi capabilities, making it impossible to power up devices like AirPods through it.

Earlier reports suggest that Apple is not only revisiting this technology but is also enhancing it with a more sophisticated version.

This upgrade focuses on better managing heat dissipation and charging efficiency between the iPhone and the device being charged.

The aim is to refine the user experience with on-screen animations and sound effects that guide the usage of this feature, mimicking the MagSafe’s user interface.

Despite its availability on numerous Android devices from Samsung, Xiaomi, Google Pixel, and others, Apple has been slow to fully implement this feature.

It’s mostly seen as a convenience for emergency situations, where it can lend a bit of power to low-battery accessories when no other charging options are available.

Currently, Apple is testing a 7.5W reverse charging function on the iPhone 17 Pro prototype. It remains unclear if this feature will be activated for users upon release.

Past leaks from sources like Instant Digital have proven reliable—they previously predicted the yellow iPhone 14 and a new front-facing camera orientation on the iPad Air—lending credibility to these new claims about Apple’s plans for the iPhone 17 Pro.
