Netflix’s chief content officer, Bela Bajaria, recently commented on Amazon’s move to buy Beast Games, the reality TV game show created by famous YouTuber MrBeast. The show, hosted by Jimmy Donaldson (better known as MrBeast), involves more than 1,000 contestants competing for a $5 million prize.

MrBeast is known for his viral videos on YouTube, where he first rose to fame playing Minecraft but now creates a variety of content, including high-budget game shows.

Bajaria revealed that Netflix did place a bid to get Beast Games but ultimately didn’t win. Amazon ended up acquiring it, though Bajaria was quick to say that, in her view, Amazon “overpaid” for the show.

She added, ‘We met with him, as did lots of other people,’ referring to their discussions with MrBeast. Bajaria also compared the show to the popular Netflix series Squid Game, saying that MrBeast’s show was very similar in concept.

Despite the loss, Bajaria acknowledged that MrBeast has created a massive following and has proven himself as a big talent in the unscripted entertainment world. However, she doesn’t believe that Amazon’s bid for the game show was the right move, considering the price they paid.

The whole situation highlights the growing battle between major streaming platforms over acquiring high-profile content. MrBeast, with his massive YouTube audience, is a key figure in the entertainment industry now, drawing interest from all the big players.

For Netflix, losing out on this one doesn’t seem to shake their confidence, but Bajaria’s comments suggest a feeling that Amazon may have overshot in their pursuit of the Beast Games show.
