Pixelity Inc., a VR development studio based in Korea, has revealed plans to release a new XR (extended reality) game based on the Neon Genesis Evangelion series in 2026. The studio aims to create a trilogy of games that cover all 26 episodes of the original anime.

The game will let players dive into the Evangelion world as an original character. Players will go on quests and battles aligned with the anime’s storyline, and can also team up with characters from the series in co-op mode.

Neon Genesis Evangelion first aired in 1995 and was later made available on Netflix in June 2019. The story takes place in 2015, where the city of Tokyo-3 faces attacks from powerful beings called Angels. The main character, Shinji Ikari, is picked to pilot the Evangelion, a giant humanoid weapon. The fate of humanity hinges on the battle between the Evangelions and the Angels.

In addition to the original TV series, the Evangelion franchise has seen many spin-offs, collaborations, and merchandise over the years. Director Hideaki Anno, who created the series, went on to establish Studio Khara in 2006.

The studio later produced the Rebuild of Evangelion film series, which reimagines the events from the original anime. The tetralogy started with Evangelion: 1.0 You Are [Not] Alone in 2007 and concluded with Evangelion: 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon a Time in March 2021.
