Monster Hunter Wilds is about to drop at the end of February, but it has a huge task ahead to reach the heights of its predecessor, Monster Hunter World. Fans are excited, especially after the recent open beta, but Wilds has some big shoes to fill.

Monster Hunter World, which was released a while ago, just keeps selling more copies. Capcom’s recent report for their fiscal quarter ending December 2024 shows that the game has now sold 28.1 million copies, making it their best-seller ever.

This title hasn’t slowed down at all. In fact, it’s been averaging an extra 1 million copies sold every three months since its launch. And that’s not all—the Iceborne DLC for Monster Hunter World also sold 900,000 units in the final months of 2024, showing the game still has a lot of life left.

With Monster Hunter Wilds launching soon on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC on February 28, Capcom expects more sales to roll in. They’ve also teased the first update for Wilds, which will bring back Mizutsune, a well-known Leviathan-class monster, adding more hype to the release.

The Monster Hunter series has become a major hit for Capcom, with a total of 108 million units sold across all games. It’s closing in on Resident Evil, which has 167 million units sold, and the new release is likely to push those numbers even higher.
