Latest Leaks Reveal Google’s Development of Pixel 10a and Pixel 11 with New Codenames
While everyone’s eyes are on the upcoming release of the Pixel 9a and the innovative Tensor G5 SoC powering the Pixel 10 series, Google isn’t just sitting back.
A peek into documents shared by Android Authority reveals that Google is already mapping out its future with the Pixel 11 series.
But that’s not the only news stirring excitement; there’s an unexpected twist in the Pixel 10a’s development that could shake things up.
The Pixel 10 series, expected later, has animal-themed codenames with a focus on horses. For instance, the anticipated mid-range Pixel 10a is affectionately nicknamed ‘stallion’ or ‘STA5.’ Google’s strategic codenames continue with the bear-themed Pixel 11 series.
The lineup includes the base model Pixel 11 (‘cubs’ or ‘4CS4’), the Pixel 11 Pro (‘grizzly’ or ‘CGY4’), the larger Pixel 11 Pro XL (‘kodiak’ or ‘PKK4’), and the foldable Pixel 11 Pro Fold (‘yogi’ or ‘9YI4’).
These devices are set to feature the Tensor G6 chip, codenamed ‘malibu,’ marking it as Google’s second fully in-house developed mobile processor.
The new chip and devices are expected to launch in the latter half of 2026, indicating that Google’s plans are well underway.
Now, about that twist with the Pixel 10a: while Google typically matches the chipsets in its flagship and mid-range models, there’s talk of potentially retaining the older Tensor G4 for the Pixel 10a instead of the new Tensor G5.
This decision could limit the Pixel 10a’s features, especially those relying on the newer AI and camera capabilities available in the Tensor G5.
It’s a surprising move that might be motivated by cost considerations since the Tensor G5 is notably larger and more expensive than even some of Apple’s leading chips.
We’ll have to stay tuned to see if Google will adjust its course or proceed with this plan, but one thing is clear: Google’s Pixel phones are always evolving, promising exciting developments ahead.
