Next year is set for excitement with the launch of a new iPhone SE—or should we say iPhone 16E?

That’s right, according to a fresh tip on X, Apple is gearing up to introduce the iPhone 16E, marking a significant shift in how it names its SE models.

This new approach will bridge the SE series closer to its flagship siblings, a move that could bring more attention to what some feel has been an overlooked line.

The iPhone 16E seems set to adopt some key features from the iPhone 14, as it will reportedly flaunt an OLED screen and, for the first time, Face ID.

It’s surprising that these features are just now making their way to the SE series. The protective case design that recently surfaced suggests the model will be available in just two colors: black and white.

In terms of pricing, the iPhone 16E is rumored to start at $499, which is a $70 hike from its predecessor.

But considering it packs an 8GB RAM, A18 chipset, and a 48 MP main camera—a feature taken right from the iPhone 16—it seems like a fair price point for those looking to enjoy Apple’s technology without breaking the bank.

While the change in naming to iPhone 16E might just seem cosmetic, it represents a potentially strategic move by Apple to enhance the appeal of its more budget-friendly options by aligning them more closely with the main iPhone family. Only time will tell how this plays out in the market.
