Elon Musk says Neuralink implanted third patient with brain device: “Working well”

Elon Musk’s Neuralink Corp. has successfully implanted its brain-computer device in a third patient, with plans to perform around 20 to 30 more procedures in 2025. Musk shared this update during a recent event in Las Vegas, which was streamed on X, his social media platform.

“We’ve now implanted Neuralinks in three people, and they’re all functioning well,” Musk said during the presentation.

Neuralink is one of several startups working on brain implants aimed at addressing serious medical conditions like paralysis and ALS. These devices involve experimental procedures that often require opening the skull to place electrodes directly into brain tissue. The first patient to receive Neuralink’s implant, Noland Arbaugh, underwent the procedure a year ago.

The company currently has two active studies in the U.S., both registered with the Food and Drug Administration. The first, known as the Prime Study, involves up to five patients and focuses on helping individuals with paralysis control devices such as computers or smartphones using only their thoughts.

The second study, Convoy, includes three participants and is designed to explore how the implant can be used to control assistive devices like robotic arms.

Neuralink’s technology is still in its early stages, but the company is making strides toward transforming how neurological conditions are managed. The potential for these implants to improve lives is significant, and many are watching closely as the company continues its research and development.
