In the latest report by IDC, Huawei has emerged as the dominant force in China’s foldable smartphone market during the final quarter of 2024.

The Shenzhen-based tech giant captured a staggering 48.6% of the market share, outshining its closest rival, Honor, which secured only 20.6%.

Despite Huawei’s strong performance, the overall interest in foldable devices seems to be waning, with shipments dropping nearly 10% compared to the same period the previous year.

This downturn marks the first decline in shipments since the market began being tracked nine quarters ago. Consumers appear hesitant, deterred by high prices and the fact that foldables are still mostly appealing to early adopters.

IDC’s analysis suggests that while these devices are becoming sleeker, lighter, and equipped with better batteries and less noticeable creases, these enhancements have not been sufficient to attract a broader customer base.

Huawei, however, continues to innovate and expand its offerings, boasting the broadest range of products in the market.

Their lineup includes everything from the budget-friendly nova Flip clamshell to the high-end Pocket 2 and the newly launched Mate X6. Not to be overlooked is the Mate XT Ultimate, the only tri-fold phone currently available.

As companies strive for technological advancements to revive consumer interest, Huawei’s diverse portfolio positions them as a leader in the foldable segment, challenging competitors to match their pace.
