The Nintendo Wii usually comes with its own proprietary cable also known as the Wii AV cable. This cable connects one of its ends to the Nintendo Wii’s end and the other at the end of your TV’s input. Usually, the red and white cables are for audio while the yellow is for video. The following are the steps to use this cable to connect your Nintendo Wii to your TV:

Step 1: Get The Wii AV Cable

If you’re just unboxing your Nintendo Wii, it should come with the Wii AV cable. This cable is the one with a Red, Yellow, and White connector. However, if you don’t have the Wii AV cable, you can get it at any Nintendo store or any technology store around you.

Step 2: Connect the Wii AV Port Plug To Its Port On Your Nintendo Wii

Now that you have the Wii AV cable, you can connect the Wii AV plug to its port on the Nintendo Wii console. Make sure you connect it properly to prevent it from slacking and falling off while in use.

Step 3: Connect The Other End Of The Cable To Your TV

Once you’ve connected the first end to your Nintendo Wii, connect the other end to your TV. The red plug goes into the red port on your TV, the white plug goes into the white port on your TV, and the yellow plug goes into the yellow port on your TV. The white and red plugs both work for audio while the yellow port works for video.

If any of these ports aren’t connected properly, the audio or video connection may operate intermittently. However, from the best experience, make sure these ports are connected properly. This brief instruction is usually what you’d need to connect your Nintendo Wii to a smart TV because the TV usually comes with this port. But in instances where the port is already preoccupied with another device, proceed to the next method.

You can also enjoy using the Nintendo Wii with your TV with an S-Video cable that’s connected to your TV. Usually, the RCA connectors may also be included, providing you with the option to use either of these connectors depending on your TV and the non-occupied ports on your TV. The following are the steps to connect the S-Video cable to your Nintendo Wii:

Step 1: Get The S-Video Cable

If you’re just unboxing your Nintendo Wii The S-Video cable doesn’t come with the gaming console. However, you can get the cable from your nearest technology store. The cable sometimes comes with the RCA connectors but in most instances, you won’t get the RCA connectors with the S-Video cable.

Step 2: Connect the Wii AV Port Connector To Its Port On Your Nintendo Wii

Now that you have the S-video cable, you can connect the Wii AV plug to its port on the Nintendo Wii console. Make sure you connect it properly to prevent it from slacking and falling off while in use. Once connected, proceed to the next step.

Step 3: Connect The S-Video To Your TV

Connect the S-Video Connector to its right port at the back or side of your TV. This port is mostly hidden so you’ll need to find the port on your TV to be able to use the S-video cable properly. Once you’re done, proceed to the next step.

Step 4: Connect The RCA Connectors To Your TV

If the S-Video cable comes with the RCA connectors, you’ll need to connect the connectors directly to your TV. When using the S-Video connector, the RCA ports are always hidden with the S-Video port so you’ll need to search for the port at the back of your TV or by its side. Since they will be grouped together, it won’t be tough looking for the port.

Connect the red and white audio cables to your TV just like you did with the S-Video.

This is because the port has been retired, however, you may find a cable suitable for this purpose on eBay but you may not be getting a new cable.

Using A SCART Connector With The Nintendo Wii Console

If you’ve limited ports on your TV for your Nintendo Wii, using the SCART port is a great idea to connect your Nintendo Wii to your TV. The SCART connection is easily extendable, and it also supports splitters and switched hubs for multiple connections just like the USB hub. So use the SCART port for your Nintendo Wii, you’ll need the SCART adapters to convert the RCA connectors to SCART compatible connectors.

The following are the steps to connect your Nintendo Wii to your TV using the SCART connection:

Step 1: Get The SCART Adapter

If you’re just unboxing your Nintendo Wii the SCART adapter doesn’t come with the gaming console. However, you can get the adapter from your nearest technology store, eBay, or Amazon. The adapter makes it easy to convert the original Wii AV connectors to be compatible with the SCART connection port.

Now that you’re sure that all of your connections are set, turn on your Nintendo Wii. Once turned on, if the connections are right, you’ll be able to view your game’s inputs and also listen to its sound via your TV’s speakers.

Presently, the RCA to SCART adapters aren’t as popular as they used to be but you may be one of the lucky ones to find a seller on eBay or Amazon or one of those old tech shops down the road. You may also be lucky to have one included in your Nintendo Wii’s pack and if not, you can proceed to get a new one.

Using A VGA Monitor With Your Nintendo Wii

Just like the SCART adapter, you’ll need a VGA adapter to be able to use your Nintendo Wii with your TV if you plan to use it via the VGA port. Most times, users look to use the VGA port when they’re out of ports as other devices have already occupied their ports. This port is also particularly useful if your Wii was relegated to a back room, or you’re using a PC after installing the PC.

The following are the steps to use the VGA to connect your Nintendo Wii to your TV:

Step 3: Connect the Wii AV Port Connector To Its Port On Your Nintendo Wii

Now that you have both the VGA adapter and the VGA cord, you can connect the Wii AV connector to its port on the Nintendo Wii console. Make sure you connect it properly to prevent it from slacking and falling off while in use.

Step 4: Connect The RCA Connectors To The VGA  Adapter

To convert the RCA connectors to a VGA connector, you’ll need to plug the RCA connector into the VGA adapter. Each color represents the respective connector to be connected to the VGA adapter. For instance, connect the red connector to the red port on the adapter, connect the white to the white port on the adapter, and connect the yellow to the yellow port on the adapter.

Step 6: Connect The VGA Cable To Your TV

Now that all of your connections are set, connect the last end of the VGA cord to your TV. Make sure that this connection is firm and that the screw is tightened so as to avoid the connection from falling apart.

Step 7: Turn On Your Console To Test The Connection

Once you have all of these connections set, you can turn on your TV to test the connection. Change your TV channel to the VGA channel and turn on your console. You should be able to view and hear what’s being played on your console.
