Honda Set to Electrify CES with Unveiling of 0 Series SUV Concept Next Month
Next month, car enthusiasts and tech aficionados are in for a treat as Honda pulls the curtain back on its latest innovation, the 0 Series SUV concept, at the CES in Las Vegas.
This reveal is a part of Honda’s ambitious plan to launch seven distinct 0 Series models by the decade’s end, each built on a groundbreaking new platform designed from scratch.
While the CES will also feature the already introduced 0 Series Saloon prototype, it’s the SUV that’s garnering major attention.
Expected to roll into production in 2026, this mid-sized SUV is just the beginning. Honda plans to expand the series quickly after with both smaller entry-level and larger high-end SUVs making their debut.
The 0 Series is not just about expanding Honda’s electric vehicle (EV) lineup but also about showcasing the pinnacle of Honda’s engineering evolution.
The saloon model will kick things off with a whopping 482bhp and an impressive range topping 300 miles, setting a high standard for the subsequent models.
Tech enthusiasts got a sneak peek at what to expect during a special preview event where Honda allowed a test drive in an Accord outfitted with the prototype powertrain.
The series will feature single and dual-motor powertrains with innovative e-axles designed for efficiency and space optimization.
These e-axles, thanks to a strategic repositioning of the inverter, are not only compact but also help enhance the vehicle’s aerodynamics by allowing for a smaller front profile.
The focus isn’t solely on power but also on practicality. Honda has developed a thinner battery pack for the series that fits neatly under the floor, adding to the vehicle’s sleek design without compromising on interior space.
This new battery pack is about 8mm thinner compared to those in rival EVs and is a part of Honda’s broader strategy to reduce vehicle height and weight, thus ensuring a more enjoyable driving experience.
But it’s not just about what’s under the hood. The 0 Series models will also be equipped with the latest technology, including capabilities for over-the-air software updates and potential for level-three autonomy, supported by an array of sensors and cameras.
As for production, the initial models will be assembled at Honda’s Ohio plant, which is being retooled to accommodate both ICE and EV models.
More dedicatedly, a new EV plant, along with a battery manufacturing facility, is set to open in Ontario, Canada by 2028, marking a significant step in Honda’s commitment to electric mobility.
This lineup promises to redefine our driving futures, and with each model, Honda is steering towards a more dynamic and environmentally friendly automotive landscape. So, keep your calendars marked for the unveiling next month
