Honda Revamps CR-V with New Trailsport Model Amid Record Sales
Honda is starting the new year with exciting updates to two of its popular models, the CR-V and the HR-V.
After a standout year with CR-V sales topping 400,000 units, thanks to its hybrid option, Honda is now set to introduce a refresh for both the CR-V and the HR-V, which also saw impressive sales figures in 2024.
The spotlight is on the upcoming CR-V Trailsport edition, expected to add a rugged flair to Honda’s lineup.
Drawing inspiration from its siblings, the Pilot and Passport Trailsport versions, this new trim is likely to include enhanced off-road capabilities like increased ground clearance, all-terrain tires, and possibly even skid plates.
Its design will feature a distinctive blackened trim and roof rails, aligning with the tough Trailsport aesthetic.
Powertrain options for the CR-V will remain robust, carrying over the 190-horsepower 1.5-liter turbocharged engine and the 204-horsepower 2.0-liter hybrid setup, which is standard in higher trims and includes all-wheel drive.
The inclusion of the hybrid engine in the Trailsport model would underline Honda’s commitment to electrification, a key focus as the company develops its EV Hub in Ohio.
Lance Woelfer, vice president of Honda sales, emphasized, ‘Electrification is best for personal mobility long-term, but how we get to 100% BEV ultimately will be based on customer demand.’
While the HR-V isn’t receiving as dramatic a makeover as the CR-V, it won’t be left behind. Honda plans to enhance its styling and technology features this year, keeping specifics under wraps for now.
Furthermore, the HR-V is set to welcome a luxurious relative into the family, the Acura ADX, which will debut in the spring equipped with a 1.5-liter VTEC turbo and premium amenities like ventilated seats and a digital gauge cluster.
Honda’s mid-cycle refresh for the CR-V and HR-V comes at a time when crossovers are in high demand, and with the Trailsport, Honda is well-positioned to appeal to outdoor enthusiasts and compete with rivals like the Subaru Forester Wilderness and Toyota RAV4 Woodland Edition.
As these models hit the roads, they are poised to meet the diverse needs of today’s adventurous drivers.
