Google’s Bold Gemini Update Shakes Up Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Debut
With the spotlight firmly on Samsung’s new Galaxy S25 series, Google wasted no time leaving its mark on these devices. The tech giant’s influence is especially visible in the latest Gemini-powered features integrated into the S25 lineup.
Given how much effort Google has poured into its Gemini AI platform lately, it’s no shock that a major Gemini update went live right after Samsung’s big reveal, AndroidPolice reveals.
One of the most noticeable changes is a redesigned Gemini assistant overlay for Android. The new look lets you see more of your screen while keeping most of the tools from the previous design. It’s compact and feels less intrusive, but still functional.
A key difference is the addition of context-aware chips. For instance, when using apps like Messages or browsing the web, the chip says ‘Ask about screen.’ On YouTube, it changes to ‘Ask about video.’ If you’re on your home screen, no chip appears at all. This small tweak makes Gemini feel smarter and more connected to what you’re doing.
There’s also a new + button on the left side of the overlay, opening a menu where you can attach photos from your Camera or Gallery. On the far right, a button enables Gemini Live, adding more ways to interact.
The microphone icon lets you toggle listening mode, while the text input area is now in the middle of the bar. Tapping ‘Ask Gemini’ there lets you type, though it’s not immediately obvious that it’s a text field.
If you’re eager to see this update, it might already be live for you. Many devices are now showing this new interface, both on stable and beta versions of the Google app.
Updating to the latest versions of the Google app (16.2.39 beta or 16.1.43 stable) and the Gemini app (1.0.686588308) should help. However, since this change depends on a server-side switch, not everyone will see it immediately. Restarting your phone after updating may also help trigger the rollout.
Google’s fingerprints are all over Samsung’s latest flagship devices, proving the companies’ partnership goes beyond hardware. With Gemini’s new design rolling out, it’s clear Google wants to stay front and center, even during Samsung’s moment in the sun.
