At this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Google is presenting Project Astra, powered by its Gemini AI. Attendees at the event are getting the chance to test out this new technology on their phones.

Project Astra, which Google first introduced at Google I/O last year, aims to make using Android devices easier. The company is focusing on how AI can simplify everyday tasks. One of the standout features of Project Astra is Gemini Live with Video.

It allows users to engage with content in new ways, like translating menus or identifying objects in real life using just their phone.

Google has hinted that this could be a sign that its Gemini AI might soon replace the existing Assistant. This is supported by recent leaks showing that “Hey Google” could eventually be replaced with “Hey Gemini”.

For now, Gemini Live with video and screen sharing features will be available to subscribers of the Google One AI Premium plan later this month.

While we don’t know the exact release date, it’s likely to come in the next update. For those attending MWC, they can visit Android Avenue to try out demos and collect special edition Android pins at partner booths.
