Google Messages Finally Releases Support for Dual SIM RCS On More Devices
After nearly a year of testing, Google is now widely rolling out dual SIM RCS support in its Messages app, AndroidPolice confirms. This feature first appeared in January 2024 but was available only sporadically throughout the year.
Some users saw it briefly before it disappeared or stopped working altogether. A couple of months ago, it started appearing for users in the US, but the rollout was limited.
Now, many users have confirmed they can access dual SIM RCS after updating to the latest version of Google Messages from the Play Store. This feature is reportedly working on major US carriers like AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon.
Dual SIM RCS is a big deal for those using two numbers on the same phone. Previously, RCS was limited to just one number, meaning the other number had to rely on old SMS messaging. With this update, you can enjoy an upgraded texting experience on both numbers.
To check if you have it, update Google Messages and go to Settings → RCS Chats. You should see both numbers enabled. Interestingly, even though Apple reluctantly supported RCS, they have allowed dual SIM RCS from the beginning.
In addition to this, Google is also adding the option to set custom photos for contacts, letting you override their profile picture. They’re working on Messaging Layer Security (MLS) to bring cross-platform encrypted messaging to Google Messages too.
Given the wide rollout, it’s unlikely Google will pull back this feature, though past experiences have shown they might. For now, though, it’s here to stay.
