February’s Nintendo Direct Will Reveal Last Major Switch Game According to Rumor
Nintendo has just teased its next console, the Nintendo Switch 2, but there’s still not much information. We got a brief look at the console and a glimpse of a new Mario Kart game.
More details will be shared during a Nintendo Direct on April 2nd, but rumors suggest there might be another presentation in February. This could focus on Switch games rather than the new hardware.
A February Direct isn’t surprising since Nintendo does something similar every year to outline its plans for the first half. Although it’s not officially confirmed, rumors are already swirling.
One of the big rumors comes from the leaker PH Brazil, who claims the February event will reveal a major first-party game—the final big release for the current Switch. The game is expected to be a fresh title in a beloved series, but on a smaller scale compared to other big Nintendo franchises. PH Brazil emphasized that this won’t be a remaster.
Speculation is running wild about which game this might be. Some are hoping for a new Star Fox game, which hasn’t seen a release since the Wii U era. Other possibilities include Golden Sun, Chibi-Robo, or F-Zero, especially after the release of F-Zero 99.
While these games aren’t as popular as Mario, Zelda, or Pokémon, they still have strong fanbases. The Star Fox series, in particular, has been missed by many, despite its characters appearing in games like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Starlink: Battle for Atlas.
None of this is confirmed, so it’s best to take it with a grain of salt. PH Brazil has been reliable in the past, but until Nintendo reveals more, it’s all just speculation. There’s also the question of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, which is supposed to release on the current Switch this year. It could possibly be delayed or released on both the Switch 2 and current hardware.
If this rumored Nintendo Direct does happen, it will likely take place in the first half of February, ahead of the Pokémon Presents on February 27th, which will focus on Pokémon Legends: Z-A. By spacing out the announcements, Nintendo can keep the hype going for both events.
