It looks like next year could bring some exciting updates in the world of augmented reality, particularly from Meta.

While we’re still waiting on the high-end Meta Orion AR glasses, a new iteration of the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses is reportedly on the horizon for 2025.

According to a source quoted by the Wall Street Journal, these updated glasses might feature a small screen built right into the lens, a detail that fans have eagerly anticipated.

This innovative addition promises to display basic information like notifications directly before your eyes, making these glasses not just a fashion statement but a truly smart accessory.

Alex Himel, Meta’s vice president of wearables, hinted that this sort of heads-up display was a popular request among users, though Meta hasn’t confirmed these features officially.

Previously in 2023, The Verge leaked Meta’s internal plans, suggesting that 2025 would be the year these advanced Ray-Bans make their debut.

What’s more, the same document hinted at a 2027 release for the full AR smart glasses, dubbed Orion, indicating that the future of AR could be closer than we think.

Meta usually unveils its new hardware around September or October at its Meta Connect event, so that’s likely when we might catch a first glimpse of these enhanced smart glasses.

While the addition of a display could raise concerns about battery life—the current models only last about four hours on a charge—there’s hope that Meta has also upgraded the battery to keep pace.

This anticipated update could potentially set the Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses apart from the competition, especially if they can maintain their stylish design without a significant price hike.

Despite potential battery challenges, these glasses could become a must-have in the emerging AI wearable landscape, merging practicality with cutting-edge technology.
