The team behind Skyblivion is still working hard to bring Oblivion into Skyrim’s engine. The fan-made project has been in development for years, and people are eager to see if 2025 will finally be the release year. The developers, led by the TESRenewal team, are keeping their goal of launching this year but haven’t locked in a final date.

The project aims to rebuild The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion inside The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim’s game engine. This means improved graphics, better mechanics, and a more modern feel while keeping the original game’s story and world intact. It’s a massive undertaking, requiring volunteers to recreate everything from landscapes to quests.

The developers recently shared an update, saying they are making good progress. Many locations have been rebuilt, and key systems are being polished. They’ve also improved how the game runs, making it smoother and more detailed than before. Despite the long wait, the team is committed to finishing it.

One of the biggest challenges is making sure everything feels like Oblivion but plays like Skyrim. This means reworking old mechanics, updating visuals, and improving how characters interact. The team has also remade weapons, armor, and spells to match the original game’s feel while taking advantage of Skyrim’s more advanced engine.

People have been following Skyblivion for years, and excitement is still strong. Since Oblivion came out in 2006, many players have wanted a modern version. Skyrim’s modding community has kept the game alive for over a decade, and Skyblivion is one of the most ambitious projects ever attempted in it.

Bethesda, the company behind The Elder Scrolls series, has not been involved in Skyblivion. However, they have allowed similar projects in the past as long as they don’t make money from them. The developers are working as volunteers and releasing the game for free when it’s done.

For now, the team is focused on meeting their 2025 target. They have warned that things could change, but they are doing everything possible to finish it this year. Players will need to own both Oblivion and Skyrim to play Skyblivion when it launches.

With The Elder Scrolls VI still far away, Skyblivion might be the closest thing to a new Elder Scrolls experience for a long time. Whether it releases this year or later, the project remains one of the most impressive fan remakes ever attempted.
