Dragon’s Dogma 2 Sales Keep Climbing but Still Lag Behind Capcom’s Giants

Capcom’s action RPG, Dragon’s Dogma 2, has been making steady progress in the gaming world. As of December 31, the game has sold 3.5 million units worldwide, according to Capcom’s updated Platinum Titles page. This marks an increase of 200,000 units from the previous quarter.
Released on March 22, 2024, for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, Dragon’s Dogma 2 is the sequel to the 2012 original. The game has been praised for refining its predecessor’s gameplay, its dynamic and dense game world, and its emergent narrative. The pawn system received attention and applause. However, it has faced criticism for performance issues, low enemy variety, and poor ally AI.
In its first week in Japan, the game sold 68,592 units, making it the second best-selling game behind Princess Peach: Showtime!. By April 2, 2024, global sales had reached 2.5 million units, and by May 28, 2024, they had climbed to 3 million.
Despite these achievements, Dragon’s Dogma 2 hasn’t matched the rapid sales of Capcom’s other major franchises like Resident Evil and Monster Hunter. The game continues to sell, but at a more modest pace. Notably, Capcom hasn’t announced any significant DLC or major updates to boost sales further.
The game’s microtransactions have also been a point of contention among players. Some find their presence in a single-player game frustrating, though others note that many items can be acquired through regular gameplay.
As we look ahead, it will be interesting to see how Dragon’s Dogma 2‘s sales trajectory unfolds. Will the game continue its steady climb, or will the lack of additional content and ongoing debates over microtransactions hinder its momentum? Only time will tell if Capcom’s latest RPG can maintain its place in the competitive gaming market.
