Directive 8020 Brings Sci-Fi Horror to Space With a Terrifying Twist

Supermassive Games is gearing up to release their latest horror adventure, Directive 8020, on October 2, 2025. This installment in the Dark Pictures Anthology shifts the terror to outer space, promising a fresh setting for the series.
In this game, we follow the story of the colony ship Cassiopeia, which crash-lands on Tau Ceti, a planet twelve light years from Earth. The crew soon discovers they’re not alone and must confront an alien organism that can mimic its prey. To survive, they’ll need to outsmart these creatures and face tough decisions that could impact humanity’s future.
Lashana Lynch, known for roles in The Woman King and No Time to Die, takes the lead as Young, a pioneering astronaut. Her portrayal adds depth to the narrative, enhancing the game’s immersive experience.
Gameplay involves making meaningful choices that influence the branching storyline. Players will engage in survival tactics, using improvised weapons, quick reflexes, and stealth to overcome enemies. Tools like a flashlight, scanner, messenger, and wedge tool will aid in navigation and combat, with the wedge tool serving both as a weapon to stun foes and a means to open doors.
Currently, pre-orders for Directive 8020 aren’t available. However, you can add the game to your wishlist on platforms like Steam, the PlayStation Store, and the Xbox Store. Pre-orders are expected to open in June 2025.
The game will be accessible on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam. It’s not planned for release on PS4, Xbox One, or Nintendo Switch.
A new story trailer was unveiled during the PlayStation State of Play broadcast in February 2025, offering a glimpse into the suspenseful journey that awaits players.
As the release date approaches, anticipation builds for this sci-fi horror experience. With its engaging narrative, strategic gameplay, and strong performances, Directive 8020 aims to deliver a thrilling adventure that will keep players on the edge of their seats.
