Crunchyroll Is Launching a New App for Manga in 2025
Finding a good manga app on the Play Store or the App Store isn’t easy. Even the popular ones like VIZ and Shonen Jump often disappoint with their low-resolution content, which is frustrating on high-res tablets. Since Amazon took over Comixology, the quality of HD manga has taken a hit, leaving readers wanting more.
Crunchyroll seems to understand this gap. After shutting down its manga app in late 2023, the company announced at Sony’s CES 2025 event that a new app called Crunchyroll Manga is coming this year for Android and iOS.
This new app will be separate from the existing anime app, which could mean a better, focused experience for manga readers. They’ve also mentioned that web support will come after the initial launch, but no exact date is set.
At launch, the app will be available in English for the US and Canada, with plans for more languages later. However, we still don’t know what titles or publishers will be part of the app or how the pricing will work. It’s unclear if it’ll be a subscription model like their anime service or if readers will have to pay for each manga separately.
Given that Sony owns Crunchyroll and recently became a major shareholder in Kadokawa, which holds a vast collection of manga and anime, there’s a good chance we’ll see many popular titles on this new platform.
For now, we can hope that the new Crunchyroll Manga app will prioritize HD quality, offering a better reading experience than what’s currently out there. More details are expected as the launch date approaches, so keep an eye out for updates.
